About the event
Cubism can be confusing. Never truly popular, the most influential art movement of the Twentieth Century can sometimes appear difficult and strange. Is this because there is something inherently ‘unlovable’ about Cubism? Not at all. Cubism needs simply to be explained for its beauty to be appreciated. This lecture sets out clearly and succinctly the theory behind Cubism, its various phases and the different types of Cubism painting, collage and sculpture in the years c 1907 - 1725. This in an accessible introduction to the subject, illustrated with artworks by the most famous Cubist artists – Picasso, Braque and Leger – and those lesser-known including some working in Britain.
